Summer is upon us and do we rest? Not really. This is the best time to educate your student when they think they are 'having fun'. It`s like stuffing vegetables in their diet when they think they are eating cake. Don`t forget to keep track of the hours to log. What a way to go! This is a great time for Dad to be more involved and do some things he enjoys with the kids. I will just list the endless possibilities and I am sure you have lots of your own.

Ending the Year
When and if you end your school year for summer, close it with a bang! Have a evening of sharing schoolwork with family! Invite the grandparents, aunts,uncles, and cousins to this great event. Your child can display the year`s activities and feel as proud as a peacock! Events can include...

Report reading
Display any awards
Give awards,certificates, or ribbons
Your child will feel blessed and loved! They will see that their hard work and possible dislike of school is worth every moment. They may feel that they DID accomplish so much and all that work, most of all, is seen by others. I believe in awards, so give them to your kids through the year or at the grand finale! YOU also need to feel a job well done! And the next school year will be greater for it!

SPRINGING!
It is time ! Time to get out into the garden again. Your own backyard! Whether your yard is large or small, you and your children can create a wonderland!! The art master~ Claude Monet ~ built a garden paradise for himself just so he could paint it! Anything you do can create a place for your homeschooler to GROW!!!
A simple garden of tomato plants and a few choice peppers and very soon you can have salsa!
A large shaker of wild flower seeds in a patch and you will have an overwhelming garden of beauty!
Moving little tree 'starts' around the yard and you have a free forest!
Make bird feeders or a bird house out of milk jugs and you will cause birds to gather!
Throw a few Mammoth sunflower seeds around and before you know it~ GIANTS are in your yard!
Swap plants with neighbors or place rocks around a spot and you will have the most quaint, little English garden on the block!
It is a fact that your child will take care of a yard that they helped build~and give the young 'Monets' a place to DRAW!
Animal Observation
A very nice spring project is observing an animal in its habitat. There are many little critters that want to show off their daily routine. Some you may own and don`t realize how amazing they are! You can also borrow an animal from a neighbor by visiting or going to a pet store with a small chair and notebook. It is good to focus one ONE animal. Get to know it, what it eats, when it sleeps, how it interacts with others of its kind(if any), anything that you see! Keep a daily log and draw pictures of its activities. Also read and do the research to compare. Do this for at least 5 days. Then put together a booklet on your pet and all the findings and share with others. You can get very creative by adding a report to give aloud, an art project or a poem. It is an amazing project for your child and you will enjoy watching the results!

An amazing book to have in your collection is ~Handbook of Nature Study by Anna Botsford Comstock. It is a great book for animal study, plants, weather, bugs, fish, birds, rocks, snakes, the skies, all this and HOW to study nature. It`s from 1939 and so delightful! There is poems here and there about nature, great drawings and photos. It is very old fashioned and so much information! You will LOVE it!

Meteor! by Patricia Polacco~ This is a true story about Patricia when she was a little girl~ a meteor landed in her yard and a whole town jumped to their feet! I actually met Patricia at a book signing and got to touch the unusual rock. Quite an experience!
Charlotte`s Webb by E.B.White~ Nothing is better than the classic story of friendship, trust and the power of kind words. Find out who Charlotte is and how she helps a baby pig find hope. You may know this tail!(I mean tale). OINK!
